Mini Mites (ADM)

Updated Friday October 9, 2015 by AYHA.

The American Development Model (ADM) , brought to you by USA Hockey in partnership with the NHL, provides age-appropriate guidelines and curriculum to hockey associations across America to help more kids play, love and excel in hockey. USA Hockey has instituted a structured educational system entitled ADM - American Development Model that the AYHA utilizes to educate our players and coaches.

AYHA's Mini Mites program is targeted for children around ages 4 to 8 years old. Typically, players have learned to skate in the Termite program and can focus on other skills such as stick handling, skating with the puck and learning how to play the game of hockey. It is not required that your child has experienced the Termite program to participate in the Cross-Ice program. The Mini Mites program received its name from the concept of splitting up a standard adult sized ice rink into sections and practicing and playing games from side to side vs. end to end. The benefit to having mini-rinks is it condenses the amount of space that a child has to traverse or skate to get from one goal to the next. It allows more opportunities for players to touch the puck and creates an environment where players have to skate closer to the other players and develop better hockey skills.

  • Ideal for boys and girls ages 4 to 8 years old.
